About Me
I’m Lydia Raymond (Schubkegel). My husband Benny and I recently got married and bought our first home in Kalamazoo Michigan where I was proudly born and raised. Alongside my love of music (performing and teaching), you’ll likely find me enjoying time with family and friends, going for a run, getting outdoors, or playing volleyball.
Raised in a deeply musical family, I have been immersed in the world of music for 17 years, growing a profound love for playing the cello. This instrument has been a precious gift to me since my early years, shaping my life in beautiful and meaningful ways. I feel privileged to create music and extend this gift through teaching students of diverse ages and skill levels. Whether it’s through teaching, performing, collaborating with other musicians, or contributing to significant life events like weddings, every moment with music is a celebration!
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance from Western Michigan University. My musical journey also led me to Nashville, TN, where I pursued a year of graduate studies at Belmont University. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of recording with esteemed artists such as Darius Rucker, Ben Rector, Cory Wong, and Cody Fry. Some of my favorite musical achievements include winning several concerto competitions, notably the Grand Rapids Young Artist Concerto Competition, the WMU School of Music Concerto Competition, and the Belmont University Honors Concerto Competition.
I’m thrilled about the opportunity to meet you and accompany you on your journey—whether it involves learning to play an instrument, collaborating on recordings, or performing at your wedding.
